In 2015, two brothers and one friend banded together to create a powerhouse pop-punk band, Heroes Of Charlotte, captivating the local punk scene in Downriver, Michigan. Since then, the trio has opened up for iconic punk bands such as SWMRS and Ultra Q, and have also headlined their own shows throughout the Michigan areas. Through a few releases, cancelled shows, name changes and everything in between, the band is finally giving their fans what they desire - a show. HOC consists of brothers lead singer/guitarist Mateo Trevino, drummer Pete Trevino, and adoptive friend-into-brother bassist Ryan Marchena.
Heroes Of Charlotte has put the PUNK in punk rock from the beginning - from creating their own label titled Brotherman Records, to finding their way to open for their favorite bands. The band has proven to capture their audience with pop-punk vibes and relatable lyrics.
Heroes Of Charlotte debuted their first EP Generation Zero that features iconic tracks such as "Let's Dance," "Not Gonna Let You Go," "Cloverfield," and "In The Sky." The EP serves as a heavily 2000s pop-punk influenced collection, with nods to influences such as Green Day, early Descendants, Emily's Army and more. Frontman Mateo Trevino comments on the opening track, "'Let's Dance' is about picking up a girl, going to a punk show and just dancing. Just having a fun time." At the time of the interview, Mateo described the Heroes' genre as "surf punk."
Following into their next collection the Best Friends EP features some of their best work with songs like "Knots," "Just Like You," "88.1" and more. The next project the Heroes pumped out is their self-titled LP, kicking off with opener "Regina George," a song about abandonment that features heavy guitar riffs and melodic vocals. Relatable lyrics -"Left me on the street/When's this gonna end/You're a liar and a cheat/I don't wanna be your friend" - perfectly captures the emotions of heartbreak and what we go through with relationships sometimes. Our personal favorite from the album (and the first track we ever listened to from HOC) "She's A Mess" screams in your face with a powerful guitar riff, with lyrics to match - "Anxiety's a bitch/I know you don't give a shit/With your evil fucking tricks/You're acting like a witch." The album ends with acoustic ballad "Wonderful" with sweet lyrics and soft melodies that has been known to make young hearts swoon.
Heroes Of Charlotte are celebrating ten years by playing a FREE show at Grandad's Side Bar in Wyandotte, Michigan with support from local singer-songwriter Katie Thor. If you're in the area, you won't want to miss the party.
We made a playlist titled "hoc forever 💀🖤" - our favorite Heroes Of Charlotte songs, all in one place. Let's Dance!
